Privacy Policy

Last updated October 11, 2026. Privacy is core to Wider: what we collect, why, who we share it with, and how you stay in control.

1. Who we are

This policy explains how Wider (“we”) processes your personal data when you use our website and apps. We are the controller of your data. We comply with applicable data-protection laws, including the UAE Personal Data Protection Law (PDPL), the EU/UK GDPR and US state privacy laws where they apply.

2. Data we collect

Data you provide: email, phone number and password (hashed); display name, photo, age, city, bio and interests; information you share with Wider AI; messages, photos, videos and voice notes; activities, posts and votes; reports and support requests.

Data collected automatically: device, browser and OS type, IP address, session identifiers, push-notification tokens, usage and error logs, online status and read receipts (per your settings), and location only when you choose to share it.

We do not intentionally collect sensitive categories of data (such as health, beliefs or orientation); please do not share them.

3. How we use data and legal bases

Contract: creating your account, running chats, groups, activities and notifications, and suggesting suitable activity partners and activities.

Legitimate interests: protecting the community and preventing dating, fraud and abuse, automated safety checks, improving the Service and fixing bugs, and defending our legal rights.

Consent: push notifications, location sharing and certain optional features; you can withdraw consent at any time.

Legal obligation: responding to binding legal requests and keeping required records.

We do not sell your data, show targeted ads, or use your private conversations for advertising.

4. What stays private

Your email and phone number are never shown to other members. Information you share only with Wider AI is used to suggest activity partners and never displayed. You control the visibility of every profile field — including photo, name, age and status — and of last-seen and read receipts.

5. Automated safety and AI

Messages, images and posts are automatically checked to block prohibited content and outside contact details. Content may be blocked or flagged by an automated decision, and you can request human review of any block. AI providers process content only to deliver the feature, under contractual commitments that prevent its use to train their general models. Staff only access private conversations when a report is filed, a violation is investigated, or the law requires it.

6. How we share data

With other members: only what you choose to show on your profile and the content you send or post to them.

With service providers: cloud hosting and databases, AI models, notification delivery, maps and email — under data-processing agreements and only as needed.

For legal reasons: when required by a competent authority, to protect anyone’s safety, to prevent fraud, or to enforce our Terms.

In a business transfer: in a merger, acquisition or asset sale, with your data remaining protected under this policy.

7. International transfers

Your data may be processed on servers outside your country. When it is, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses and transfer assessments, as required by applicable law.

8. Data retention

We keep account data while your account is active. Disappearing messages are deleted automatically after the period you choose. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your data within 30 days; backups may persist for a limited time, and certain records (such as safety, report and ban records) may be kept as long as needed to protect the community or meet legal obligations.

9. Security

We use encryption in transit, password hashing, role-based access controls, immutable audit logs for staff actions, and strict per-user data isolation. No system is 100% secure; we will notify you and the authorities of any significant breach as required by law.

10. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to: access and obtain a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to processing, port it, withdraw consent, not be subject to a purely automated decision without human review, and complain to your data-protection authority. California residents: we do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

You can edit most data and privacy settings directly in the app, or email privacy@joinwider.com. We respond within 30 days and may need to verify your identity.

11. Cookies and local storage

We use only essential cookies and local storage to keep you signed in, remember preferences (such as language and appearance) and operate the Service. We do not use third-party advertising trackers.

12. Children

The Service is only for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone younger, and we will delete any account we learn belongs to a minor. If you become aware of one, contact us immediately.

13. Changes and contact

We may update this policy and will notify you of material changes in the app or by email before they take effect. If the Arabic and English versions conflict, the English version prevails.
